This is regarding an OfficeJet Pro 8610 -

My device is currently stuck on an error "One or more cartridges may be damaged."

The system won't move from this screen after I tried to do a partial/semi-reset.  I have tried a power cycle, I have tried access the device through the local site for the printer, I have tried to do a hard reset.

Also - the carriage is stuck, though I was able to manually move it to the left to try and eject the ink cartridges.

If anyone has any help once so ever it would be greatly appreciated.  I can't get a live chat person online as well because the Serial number doesn't pick up on HPs website.

I'm a remote Masters student and absolutely need to print items here and there.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi @surge001,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is displaying the error message "One or more cartridges may be damaged," and the printer won't move past this screen, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Turn Off the Printer: Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer while it is still on. Then, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Check the Cartridges:

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Carefully remove all the ink cartridges.
  • Check each cartridge and the cartridge slots for any visible damage. Look for any tape or plastic covering the cartridge contact point that might not have been removed.

Inspect the Carriage:

  • Make sure there is no obstruction preventing the carriage from moving freely.
  • If you manually moved the carriage to the left, ensure it can move without any resistance on its track.

Reinstall the Cartridges:

  • Reinsert the cartridges one by one, ensuring they click securely into place.
  • Close the cartridge access door.

Restart the Printer:

  • Plug the power cord back into the outlet and then into the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on.

Soft Clean the Contacts:

  • Use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the electrical contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.

Test a Firmware Update:

  • Occasionally, firmware updates may include fixes for cartridge recognition issues. Visit the Official HP® Support to download and install the latest firmware update for your printer.

Reset the Printer:

  • Once powered on, try performing a reset again, but ensure you follow the correct steps for either a partial or full reset.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
