HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw

I bought an original HP CF540X 203X High Yield black toner from Amazon, with HP support listed as supporting the product. Once installed in my M281fdw (stated as supported at point of sale and on the cartridge box, which was correctly sealed), the printer said that the cartridge was a 203A, not 203X as indicated on the box. The cartridge has no labelling whatsoever, and no hologram, and is shown by the printer to be non-HP.

 

I have reported possible fraud to HP, but how do I get help? I can't afford to pay for phone support (given the already eye-watering cost of the cartridge), and chat support seems unavailable to me.

 

Can anyone help please?

I'd like to help!

 

You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

 

There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

 

Note: Your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw Printer Toner Cartridges are HP 202A, HP 202X / Your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw printer is designed to work with the original HP 202A, HP 202X toner family. Only original HP CF500A, CF500X, CF501A, CF501X, CF502A, CF502X, CF503A, CF503X toner cartridges

Hi Elohi.

Thanks for getting back to me. I am aware of HPs policy, and the cartridge causing the problem either *is* HP, or is being missold in HP packaging from another entity. The Amazon page even points to HP for support:
