I have 3 new black 962XL HP ink cartridges that my printer will not recognize.  The error I keep getting is

"Depleted cartridges must be replaced to resume printing.  If you have an HP = printer, it requires Original HP Cartridges.

I just returned with a brand new cartridge from the store and this is the  error I am getting.

Hi @s-l-p,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is to install brand new HP 962XL black ink cartridges in your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e, only to be met with a “Depleted cartridges must be replaced” error. Let’s walk through the right steps to resolve this issue for you.

1. Check Cartridge Authenticity

2. Remove and Reinstall the Cartridge

  • Open the ink access door.
  • Remove the black cartridge and gently wipe the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert it firmly until it clicks into place.

3. Power Cycle the Printer

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn the printer on.

4. Check for HP Instant Ink Enrollment

  • If your printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink, it requires Instant Ink cartridges.
  • You can check your Enrollment status in the HP Smart app or at HP Instant Ink.

If you are enrolled, standard retail cartridges will not work — only Instant Ink cartridges will be accepted.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
