I tried remanufactured HP color ink cartridges to save money (HP original ink cartridges are quite expensive).
Big mistake! My printer started displaying a “damaged cartridge notice”. I have replaced the remanufactured cartridges with brand new original HP color cartridges, but my printer continues to display the “damaged cartridges notice” (for all 3 colors). It will not run the printhead cleaning cycle as long as it thinks the ink cartridges are damaged, although they are new.
I need help! How can I fix this problem, or clear the “damaged cartridges notice”??

Hi @NLP3,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer is not printing after you've installed remanufactured cartridges, and you're seeing a "damaged cartridges" notice, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
- Remove and reinsert the cartridges: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Remove the remanufactured cartridges and check for any visible damage. If there is none, reinsert the cartridges into the printer and make sure they are securely in place.
- Clean the cartridge contacts: Use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the metal contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer where the cartridge sits. This will remove any dirt, debris or residue that may be interfering with the communication between the cartridge and the printer.
- Update printer firmware: Check if there are any updates available for your printer firmware. Installing the latest firmware may resolve the issue with the remanufactured cartridges.
- Try a new set of remanufactured cartridges: If the above steps don't work, try installing a different set of remanufactured cartridges from a different supplier to determine if the problem is with the cartridges themselves.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Alden4: Thank you for your suggestions, but I have tried those tips to no avail. No new firmware updates available; drivers, etc are up to date.
I have now tried 3 different sets of color cartridges:
Remanufactured in USA HP951XL (m,c,y) from eBay;
Individual “new, sealed” HP951 (m,c,y) purchased from 3 different eBay sellers; and,
Brand new original HP951 3/pack (m,c,y) from hp.com.
All cartridges are within their expiration dates.
Mostly the printer shows all 3 color cartridges are damaged. But sometimes it only shows the c and y cartridges are damaged.
I’m counting on your expertise to help me fix this issue!
Do you think this problem is in the printhead, the printhead circuitry, or the main motherboard??
Is there any way to make it print in black & white only???
