@Angie774, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 6500e All-in-One Printer prints test pages in color but not documents sent from your computer, the issue is most likely related to software or printer settings on the computer, not a hardware problem. Please follow these steps,

Check Printer Preferences (Windows)

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click on your HP 6500e printer > Printing Preferences
  • Under the "Paper/Quality" or "Advanced" tab:
  • Ensure that Color is selected (not "Black & White" or "Grayscale").
  • Uncheck "Print in Grayscale" if enabled.
  • Click Apply > OK

Check App-Specific Settings

  • In the app you're printing from (e.g., Word, Adobe Reader):
  • Go to Print > Printer Properties
  • Again, verify Color is selected and grayscale is not enabled.

Check Printer Driver

  • Outdated or generic drivers can cause color printing issues.
  • Go to HP Support Page and download/install the latest full-feature software and driver for your OS.
  • Reboot your PC after installation.

Use HP Smart App (Windows/macOS)

  • Download or open the HP Smart app.
  • Add your printer (if not already added)
  • Try printing a photo or document via the HP Smart app to see if color printing works from there.

Mac Users – Check Color Matching Settings

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners > HP Envy 6500e > Options & Supplies > Driver
  • Make sure the correct HP driver is selected (not AirPrint).
  • When printing:
In the print dialog, choose Color Matching > HP ColorSmart/sRGB, not "Generic RGB" or "Black and White".

If None of the Above Works:

  • Try removing and reinstalling the printer:
  • Delete printer from your Devices and Printers (Windows) or System Preferences (Mac)
  • Restart your PC
  • Reinstall using the HP Smart app or HP’s full driver package.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
