Hi,
I have a HP envy 5030 printer. My problem started with not being able to print anything in black, but I use my printer about once a year on average so I just made sure to print in color. But now, it no longer prints any ink. I used the instant ink program before (not anymore because I can’t print 😅) and I think the color cartridge is still from then, but my black one is new. I tried several new ones when the issue first arised.
I’ve tried all the cleaning options in the settings multiple times and sometimes it prints the faintest bit of ink on the top, so the cartridges don’t seem to be the problem.
Any suggestions on what I can do to get it working again?

Hi @xMandy2511,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that you are facing an issue with your printer that does not print.
When you cancel the instant ink service:
- You can continue printing with Instant Ink supplies until the end of your current billing cycle.
- At the end of the billing cycle, you must remove Instant Ink cartridges and purchase Original HP Ink or Toner directly from the retailer of your choice to continue printing. Instant Ink cartridges only work in enrolled printers.
- Your final monthly charge comes at the end of the billing cycle.
Note: HP Instant Ink is based on the pages you print, not cartridges or shipments you receive.

Hi Irwin6,
Thanks for your response. My black cartridge is new (so just a regular one, no instant ink). I bought it just to check if the cartridge I was using at the time (instant ink) might’ve been the problem, but it made no difference.
So to clarify, I already had this issue back when I was still using instant ink. It wouldn’t print black, but I could still print color. Switched to a regular black cartridge but it didn’t help. I tried to research online how to solve this but I couldn’t find anything and I don’t need my printer much so I just gave up on it and figured I could print in color when I needed to print something. Somewhere along the way I canceled my instant ink subscription because I wasn’t using it anyways. When I tried to print in color last weekend I turned out it no longer prints in color either.
I’ve tried the cleaning options in the printer settings, multiple times with time in between. Sometimes, it does print the first couple of lines very faint, but it’s mostly blank paper..

Hi @xMandy2511,
I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.
A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

That should be illegal!! If a cartridge is purchased during membership, it is paid for and owned by the user. How can hp take the money for the ink cartridge then End it because a membership stops. We paid for the ink cartridges! Disgusting

Hi @xMandy2511,
HP Instant Ink is based on pages, not cartridges. Your monthly fee allows you to use our subscription cartridges to print your plan pages and includes ink or toner, delivery and recycling.
If you cancel the Service, even if the Subscription Cartridges provided with your subscription are not empty, they will stop working in your printer and you will have to replace all of them with standard cartridges.
