I subscribe to Instant Ink. However, my tri-color cartridge is empty and I'm not due for another one for up to 10 days (a major failing of their predictive system, I'll say). I have an urgent need for ink TODAY, so I went to Stables and purchased an HP TriColor cartridge - not a knock-off, not a refillable cartridge, not a competitor, but an HP product specifically for this printer. My printer refuses to acknowledge that a full cartridge is present, apparently because it isn't an InstantInk cartridge. How can I resolve this? I cannot wait 10 days for HP to get around to sending me a cartridge to complete a print job that is needed today. It's unconscionable that HP won't permit me to use their own product to supplement an urgent printing need. Am I stuck just purchasing a new (non-HP) printer and not falling for the myth of on-demand printing capabilities and the modern subscription model?

For the record (and anyone else who stumbles onto this post): The solution apparently is "HP owns your printer as long as you have an HP Instant Ink subscription, even if that subscription has been cancelled as long as 30 days haven't elapsed. For the duration of that ownership, even HP ink cartridges aren't permitted to be used - only Instant Ink cartridges." Given that unauthorized ownership of my printer, I have completed my cancellation of the HP Instant Ink service, purchased a computer from another company, and will be selling my HP printer. To be clear, the printer I was using is a very good quality printer, but I wasn't giving HP another sale while they were holding it hostage and I needed to print right now, not in 10 days when a new Instant Ink cartridge was due.
