Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer
Operating System: macOS 10.15 Catalina

 At one time, I set my HP printer to not update automatically., so that I could use any compatible printer cartridge. Unfortunately, I forgot that fact and and asked Apple Support help me get my printer working with my IMac.  They downloaded the latest printer driver/firmware updates, so now my HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 won't work with any non-HP ink cartridges. 

I went to the store (Target) to purchase new printer ink but they were out of HP 902 Black ink so I bought a package of 2 902XL cartridges that said "Compatible Ink Cartridges"  It was not cheap $40 - $60 but they do not work in my printer with the new firmware installed.  How can I retro fit my printer to an older firmware version?

And can anyone tell me how I can join a class-action suit against HP for this criminal conduct?
