I can not get my HP 4655 printer to print in color. I have installed new cartriges, done the test print (fine), and can make a color copy, but can not print from my computer in color. Please Help!

@MeganCollenber, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your HP OfficeJet 4655 can make color copies and the test print works fine, the issue is likely software-related probably a setting on your computer or in the print driver. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot:

Check Printer Settings on Your Computer

Make sure color printing is enabled:

On Windows:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your HP OfficeJet 4655 and select Printing Preferences.
  3. Look for a Color or Paper/Quality tab.
  4. Ensure Color is selected (not “Black & White” or “Grayscale”).
  5. Click Apply and OK.

On macOS:

  1. Open the document you want to print.
  2. Click File > Print.
  3. In the print dialog, click Show Details (if available).
  4. Look for a dropdown like Color Options or Quality & Media.
  5. Make sure Color is selected.

Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver

Sometimes the driver defaults to black & white or gets corrupted.

  • Visit the HP Support Page.
  • Download and install the latest Full Feature Software and Drivers for your operating system.
  • Restart your computer after installation.

Check Application-Specific Settings

Some apps (like Chrome, Word, or Adobe Reader) have their own print settings. When printing:

  • Click Print > Preferences or Properties.
  • Make sure Color is selected in that dialog too.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only)

HP offers a free tool to diagnose and fix printing issues:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
