Hi @Yajahira3

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Cartridges are not communicating correctly" error on your HP Envy 7858 can be caused by a variety of issues, even when you’ve tried new genuine HP cartridges. Since you’ve already replaced the cartridges multiple times (both from HP directly and from other sources), let’s go through some steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue.

1. Check the Cartridge Contacts

  • Clean the cartridge contacts: Sometimes the error can be due to dirty or misaligned contacts on the cartridges or the printer.
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    2. Open the printer’s ink cartridge door and remove the cartridges.
    3. Use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the copper-colored electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the printer carriage (the part that holds the cartridges). Be careful not to touch the ink nozzles on the cartridges as oils from your skin can damage them.
    4. Reinstall the cartridges, ensuring they are seated properly and securely in place.

2. Reset the Printer

  • Reset the printer to clear any temporary errors:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    2. Leave it unplugged for at least 30 seconds.
    3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can sometimes help reset the communication between the cartridges and the printer.

3. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Sometimes, firmware bugs can cause issues with cartridge recognition.
    • Check for firmware updates by visiting the HP support website or using the HP Smart app to check if a newer version of the firmware is available.
    • If there’s an update, install it and restart the printer to see if the issue is resolved.

4. Verify Cartridge Compatibility

  • Even if you’re using genuine HP cartridges, make sure the HP 64 cartridges you’ve purchased are compatible with your Envy 7858 model. You can do this by checking the packaging or the product details on the HP website to ensure the cartridges are intended for your printer.
  • Sometimes, HP printers may have trouble recognizing certain batches of cartridges, especially if they are very new. If possible, test with cartridges from a different batch or try swapping them with the ones you bought from other retailers (Amazon or Target) to see if the issue is specific to one set.

5. Try an Ink Cartridge Reinstallation

  • It might sound simple, but sometimes reseating the cartridges helps fix the issue:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    2. Remove the cartridges and carefully check the cartridge alignment (make sure the cartridges are seated properly in their slots).
    3. Reinstall the cartridges, ensuring they are securely and correctly placed in their respective slots.
    4. Plug the printer back in and turn it on to see if the issue resolves.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I've done all that and it didn't work. I saw a video where they replaced the 64 with 64 xl and the problem was solved. I don't know if it's true, but I've already spent a lot on buying cartridges in different stores.and the printer said the same the cartridges are not communicating correctly

Thank you for your help.
