Microsoft Windows 11

I have just installed the printer and printed a few pages (about ten total) and now I have a printhead problem and thee printer will not print.  Is this some sort of error or did I get a unit with a faulty printhead??

Appreciate any and all assistance.   Thanks

Hi @PaulHad,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8130 is showing a printhead problem after only a few pages, and the printer won’t print. Let’s go through steps to troubleshoot this and determine whether it’s a faulty unit.

1. Power Cycle the Printer

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall outlet.

Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power on.

This can sometimes clear temporary errors.

2. Check the Cartridges

Open the printer and remove all cartridges.

Inspect for:

Protective tape still on the cartridges.

Damage or leaks.

Reseat the cartridges firmly in their slots.

3. Clean the Printhead Contacts

Remove the printhead (if your model allows).

Using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water, gently clean:

The copper contacts on the printhead

The contacts inside the printer cartridge slots

Allow contacts to dry completely before reinstalling.

4. Reset the Printer to Clear Printhead Error

On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults (or similar).

After reset, reinstall cartridges and try a test print.

5. Firmware / Driver Update

Connect the printer to the internet.

Check the HP Support website or HP Smart app for any firmware updates.

Update drivers on your computer if needed.

6. Test Print

After cleaning and reinstalling, try printing a test page from the printer menu.

If the error persists, the issue is likely hardware-related.

I hope this helps.
