Hi @Orca99,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error message indicating that the printhead is missing, undetected, or improperly installed on your HP 6700 printer can be caused by various issues. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.
Reset the Printer
- Turn on the printer.
- While the printer is on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer.
Check the Printhead Installation
- Open the printer lid to access the printhead and cartridge area.
- Make sure the printer is turned on.
- Remove the ink cartridges from the printhead.
- Lift the latch that holds the printhead in place.
- Carefully remove the printhead from its slot.
- Inspect the printhead for any obstructions, debris, or damage.
- Reinsert the printhead into its slot, ensuring it is seated properly.
- Lower the latch to secure the printhead.
- Reinstall the ink cartridges.
Clean the Printhead and Contacts
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the ink cartridges and the printhead from the printer.
- Using a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water, gently clean the printhead contacts.
- Also, clean the contacts inside the printer where the printhead is installed.
- Allow the printhead and contacts to dry for a few minutes.
- Reinstall the printhead and ink cartridges.
Update Printer Firmware
Sometimes firmware updates can resolve printhead detection issues. Check for any available firmware updates for your printer model on the HP support website.
Run Printhead Cleaning Utility
- Open the printer software on your computer.
- Navigate to the maintenance or tools section.
- Run the printhead cleaning utility.
Replace the Printhead
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, the printhead may be faulty and require replacement.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
