My cartridges were low, but I only replaced the Black cartridge as I only print text. Although I chose Black Ink Only in Advanced Settings, the printer does not seem to work properly. Is it necessary to have ink in the color cartridges in order to use the Black XL cartridge?

Hi @MKMC2,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The behavior you're experiencing with your HP 7510 printer might be due to the printer requiring functional color cartridges even if you only want to print in black. Some printers, including HP models, may rely on a small amount of color ink to create high-quality black prints.
Here are a few steps you can try to address the issue.
- Check for Color Cartridge Levels: Ensure that the color cartridges, even if low, have some ink remaining. Some printers require a minimal amount of color ink to function properly.
- Printer Settings: Double-check the printer settings, especially in the Advanced Settings or Print Quality options. Make sure the printer is set to use the black cartridge primarily for text.
- Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that your printer drivers are up-to-date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause printing issues.
- Printer Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Firmware updates can address compatibility issues and improve overall performance.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
