I have been printing the same file on a size 11 envelope for years. I had an ASUS computer and at the first of the year, purchased a Dell. Now, when I print the envelope in landscape (to run horizontally on a size 11 envelope), the printing looks like cross stitching. I can print the contents of the file on an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper in portrait orientation and the print looks fine. At first I thought it was the envelope thickness, but the same thing happens if I just change the orientation on plain paper.
To make things more confusing, I turned on my old computer and was able to print the envelope just fine. The only difference I can come up with is the change from Windows 10 to Windows 11. The printer is the same, the file is the same....??? Help!

Welcome to the HP English Community --
I had to check on the size of the Envelope.
Envelope No. 11 (#11)
Size > inches: 4.5 x 10.375 (mm: 114.3 x 262.525)
Suggested insert size > (size depends on thickness)
inches: 4.25 x 10.125 (mm: 107.95 x 257.175)
OK - Not sure -0
I can suggest some ideas, places to check, and a workaround (manual envelope)

Printer - Full Feature Software
If you have not yet done so, install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.
HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts. The full driver generally adds at one, possibly least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and/or HP Scan.
NOTES:
HP Scan is not installed if the printer does not support Scan.
The Printer Assistant is not installed if the type of full driver software does not support it. If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver.
No Sign-in required to use full driver printer software.
Reinstalling?
- Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
- If your printer includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
- Restart the computer and log in.
- If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.
Details Page - Driver - For your Printer
>>> Full Feature Software - Web Pack Installation Package - Information - Download / Save / (then) Install <<<
HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 All-in-One EasyStart Printer Setup Software – Offline Use Only
If / When asked, opt for the Full Driver / Full Software to be installed.
If using a printer USB cable, connect the cable when asked to do so, near the end of the installation process.
After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.
The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one or more shortcuts to the Desktop.
Note: Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.
- Printer Assistant – Where still supported as part of the full driver printer software
- HP Scan Assistant – For those printers that no longer provide the Printer Assistant
- HP Scan – Shortcut on Desktop named for the printer model
- When installed, HP Universal Scan software adds a separate self-named “HP Scan” shortcut
Printer Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable
Or
HP Scan Assistant shortcut > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

Printer - Tray and Paper - EWS
EWS > HP Document / How-to (Original Format)
Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)
NOTE: Find printer IP address
Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation
Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
EWS – Tray and Paper Management
Standard EWS
Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)
Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type
Model and EWS version Dependent: Advanced section
Click Apply to save changes
OR
Example - (Alternate EWS format - select new OfficeJet Pro printers and at least some LaserJet printers)
Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Section Paper > Trays > click on Tray to configure
And (in addition and as available)
Section Print > Default Print Options > Select default tray
Tray and Paper – Paper Size / Paper Type / Paper Weight
Paper Size, Type, and Weight loaded in the printer tray must be supported for use in that tray.
EWS (Embedded Web Server) provides access and control for Settings, including Tray and Paper.
Reminder
HP Smart Mobile might require that paper size / type is rechecked / adjusted before the content is opened for print.
Notes
Depending on the printer model, the Printer Control Panel touchscreen might provide access to Paper Size / Type settings immediately after the paper is (re)loaded into the appropriate printer intake tray.
New printer? Touchscreen Printer Control Panel locked against making changes? Try username "admin" and the PIN located on the sticker on the inside of the front door of the printer.
Trays
- If the printer lacks a second tray, all paper / types are supported in the single available tray.
- Printers that include a Photo Tray generally restrict the paper sizes and paper type supported in that tray.
Custom size?
If your paper is a custom size, look for "Custom" in the full list of paper sizes.
Remember >> Printers with more than one tray might only support custom paper sizes and types in one tray.
If EWS does not allow setting the paper size or size “Custom”,
If the printer includes a touchscreen display printer control panel,
Look for the setting for “Custom” in the Printer Control Panel after (re)loading the paper to be used
NOTE: Size Custom is not available for all printers
What?
Paper Size, Type, and Weight must be appropriate for the tray in which that paper is to be used.
Depending on the printer model, Tray 1 might be used for Custom media.
In this scenario, Tray 2 might only support Plain paper, perhaps in limited sizes.
OR
If the "Custom Paper Tray" is Tray 2, then Tray 1 might only support Plain paper / limited sizes.
Printers that include a Photo Tray generally limit the size and type of paper that the Photo Tray supports. Example: Depending on the printer model, the Photo Tray might support only 4x6 inch photo paper.

Method - Word Document - Size and Shape of Envelope
Create an "manual" Envelope shaped document in Word and Print that document right from Word. Doing it this way certainly supports some extra "fancy" bits - pictures, art, whatever your Post Office will tolerate on an Envelope.
This method requires the Custom Paper Size having been created so the "document" can be printed.
