Hello, I have the HP Deskjet 2700e and while I was printing this morning it seems the paper got a little stuck and there are a couple ink blots and then it kept going and now it will only “print” blank pages. I did multiple cycles of cleaning the printhead. I also put a new black cartridge in and it is not registering it as full.

Hi @AlexFrieling,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like your HP DeskJet 2700e is experiencing a combination of issues related to both the printhead and cartridge recognition, possibly due to the paper jam and ink blots you encountered earlier. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the problem.
Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.
- Try printing again to see if the blank page issue persists.
Check for Paper Jams or Debris
- Open the printer and inspect it carefully to ensure no paper fragments or ink residue are stuck inside.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean any ink buildup around the rollers.
Check Cartridge Installation
- Remove the black cartridge, inspect it, and make sure the protective tape on the cartridge has been completely removed.
- Reinstall the cartridge, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
- Try a different cartridge if possible to check if the new one is defective.
Run the Printer Diagnostic Tool
- Go to the HP Smart app or HP Print and Scan Doctor (if on a PC) to run a diagnostic check. It can often detect issues with the cartridges or printhead alignment.
Manually Clean the Printhead
- If cleaning cycles from the printer didn’t work, you can manually clean the printhead.
- Open the printer and remove the cartridges.
- Gently clean the copper contacts on the printhead with a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with distilled water.
- Let it dry and reinstall the cartridges.
Check Cartridge Recognition
- If the printer is not recognizing the new black cartridge as full, this may indicate a cartridge error. Try:
- Removing and reinstalling the cartridge a few times.
- Updating the printer firmware via the HP Smart app to ensure it’s recognizing newer cartridges.
- If still not recognized, check the cartridge compatibility with your printer model (in rare cases, a cartridge from a different series can cause issues).

Align the Printer
- Use the HP Smart app or the printer's settings to align the printer. It may prompt the printer to recognize the new cartridge and improve print quality.
Hard Reset
- Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds while the printer is plugged in to reset it.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
