HP Officejet Pro 8500A Premium e-All-in-One Printer - A910n

I have an officejet  HP8500. It is printing blank pages. The printhead has never been changed. Would replacing the print head resolve this ?

Hi @MB4901Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding replacement of the printhead!

Yes, replacing the printhead could help, but before we jump to that, let’s roll up our sleeves and try a few fixes to bring those pages back to life. A little tweak here and there might save you the hassle of a replacement! 😊

Check Ink Levels

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Tools > Estimated Ink Levels
  • If any cartridge is empty or very low, replace it.

Clean the Printhead (Automatic & Manual Methods)

Automatic Cleaning:

  1. On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead
  2. Let the printer complete the cleaning process and print a test page.

Manual Cleaning:

  1. Remove all ink cartridges from the printer.
  2. Locate the printhead latch (usually a gray lever near where the cartridges sit).
  3. Remove the printhead and clean the nozzles using a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
  4. Let it dry completely before reinserting.

Align the Printhead

  • Go to Setup > Tools > Align Printhead
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the printer.
  2. Wait 2-3 minutes.
  3. Plug the power cord back in and restart the printer.

Check for Firmware Updates

Hopefully, your printer stops ghosting your prints after these steps! 👻 If it’s still acting up, and the printer still prints blank pages, then the printhead is likely clogged or defective. Since the HP 8500A has a separate printhead, replacing it should fix the issue.

Let me know how it goes

Hope I was able to make things easier for you! 😊
