@KM1120, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing color printing issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, where black prints as orange and blue (cyan) doesn't appear at all, even after cleaning the printheads. Let's work through this together to get your printer back to normal.
Check Ink Cartridge Authenticity and Installation
- Ensure all cartridges are genuine HP and properly installed.
- Remove and reinsert each cartridge to confirm they’re seated correctly.
Run Print Quality Diagnostic Report
- On the printer control panel, go to:
- Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report
- This will help identify which colors are not printing correctly.
Clean Printhead Thoroughly
- From the printer menu:
- Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead
- Run the cleaning cycle up to 3 times if necessary.
- If cyan still doesn’t appear, proceed to the next step.
Manually Clean the Printhead
- Sometimes automatic cleaning isn’t enough.
Align the Printhead
- After cleaning, align the printhead:
- Setup > Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead
Update Printer Firmware
- Outdated firmware can cause color issues. Download the latest firmware here: Official HP® Support
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
