Hi @Keams920 ,

If you're encountering a black cartridge error and the print quality has deteriorated, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the black ink cartridge is correctly installed. Remove the cartridge and reinsert it, making sure it clicks securely into place.

Inspect Cartridge: Examine the black ink cartridge for any visible issues such as leaks or damage. If you find any problems, consider replacing the cartridge with a new one.

Clean Printheads: Over time, printheads can become clogged with dried ink, leading to print quality issues. Most printers have a utility for cleaning printheads. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform this task.

Check Ink Levels: Verify the ink levels in the black cartridge. If the cartridge is low or empty, replace it with a new one.

Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes resolve temporary communication or software glitches.

Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your printer installed. Visit the printer HP website to download and install any available updates.

Run Printer Diagnostics: Many printers have built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify and fix common issues. Consult your printer manual or access the printer settings on your computer to run diagnostics.

Perform a Test Print: Print a test page to check if the issue persists. This can help you determine whether the problem is specific to the black cartridge or if it's a more general printing issue.

Reset Printer: If the above steps don't resolve the problem, try resetting the printer to its factory settings. Refer to your printer manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
