My printer was working fine until it ran out of paper, when I reloaded it, everything prints VERY faintly (I included a scan of the print quality report printed straight from my printer, not using my computer, but it also happens with printing files I have saved on my computer). I updated the printer itself, HP Smart on my computer shows decent ink levels so I don't think that's the issue.

I understand the print quality is faded. Thank you for attaching the print quality report.

To assist you better, was the printer not used for a couple of weeks?

 

This printer supports printing in single-cartridge mode. Remove the color ink cartridge and print/copy in black to check the result.

 

Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

 

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your PC.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

 

Clean the ink cartridges

Cleaning the ink cartridges can improve print quality. Clean the ink cartridges from the printer control panel, then evaluate the results.

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe left on the display, and then touch Setup .

  2. Touch Tools, and then touch Clean Cartridges.

  3. If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Yes when prompted to perform the next level of cleaning.

  4. NOTE: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform both levels of cleaning again.

     

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic report from the printer control panel, and then evaluate the results.

  1. Load the printer with plain white paper.

  2. On the printer control panel, swipe left on the display, and then touch Setup .

  3. Touch Tools.

  4. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Print Quality Report. Check the result.

If the issue persists, perform step 13 from this document - Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues
