@Paulahacker, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Black Ink Issues on HP Printers!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP printer has suddenly stopped printing black ink and color printing is inconsistent, follow these steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:
Step 1: Run a Printhead Check
- Print a diagnostic page to check for clogged nozzles. Many HP printers have this option in the maintenance or settings menu.
Step 2: Clean the Printheads Manually
- Remove the black printhead from the printer.
- Use a lint-free cloth and distilled water to gently clean around the outside and the printhead nozzles.
- Place the printhead back into the printer and run an alignment test.
Step 3: Run Printhead Cleaning from the Printer
- Use the printer’s built-in cleaning option to clean the printheads. This can be found in the settings or maintenance menu.
Step 4: Replace the Printheads (if the above steps fail)
- If the printhead cleaning does not resolve the issue, it might be necessary to replace the printhead.
Step 5: Check for Software Issues
- Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date.
- Sometimes restarting the printer and the computer can resolve software conflicts.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
