Hi @Yt131

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how worrying it feels when every print comes out with a long black strip on the side, especially when you rely on the printer daily. Thank you for sharing the details so clearly. We’ll walk through this together step by step and bring that LaserJet MFP 1005 back to clean, crisp printing.

Here’s what you can try. These steps focus on clearing anything inside the printer that might be causing that heavy black streak.

1. Gently clean the toner cartridge area

Sometimes excess toner powder settles inside and creates a dark vertical band.

• Power off the printer and let it cool for a moment.
• Open the top cover and remove the toner cartridge slowly.
• Hold the cartridge level and gently tap it from side to side to redistribute toner.
• Use a dry, lint‑free cloth to wipe away loose toner inside the printer cavity.
• Do not touch the roller surface on the cartridge.

The goal is to remove any loose toner that may be dragging along the page.

2. Inspect the drum surface

If the drum has a mark, scratch, or toner buildup, it can leave a long black strip.

• Hold the cartridge by the handle.
• Slowly rotate the drum roller using the small gear on the side.
• Look for any dark patches, scratches, or toner clumps.
• If you see loose toner, gently wipe it with a dry, soft cloth.
• Avoid exposing the drum to bright light for long.

A damaged drum usually causes repeated marks in the same place on every page.

3. Clean the printer’s paper path

Toner dust inside the paper path can smear along the edge of the paper.

• Remove the paper tray.
• Check for any toner spills or paper dust.
• Wipe the area with a dry, lint‑free cloth.
• Reinsert the tray firmly.

This helps ensure the paper moves smoothly without dragging toner.

4. Try a different toner cartridge

If you have a spare cartridge or can borrow one briefly, testing with another cartridge helps confirm whether the issue is cartridge‑related.

A worn‑out or leaking cartridge often causes a thick black strip.

5. Print a few test pages

After cleaning, print 3–4 blank pages.
This helps clear any remaining loose toner inside.

About the “ink ending in 007 days”

Laser printers use toner, not liquid ink. That message usually appears when the cartridge is nearing the end of its usable life. The streak you’re seeing can happen when the toner level becomes uneven or the drum wears out.

You’re doing the right thing by checking early. Once the cartridge is replaced, the print quality should return to normal.

If you’d like, you can tell me whether the black strip appears on the left side consistently on every page or if it changes position. That detail helps narrow down whether it’s the drum or the internal path.
