Hi there @Mzpam1, and welcome to HP Support Community!
Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.
If your HP printer is printing darker shades and you'd like to lighten the output, here are a few steps you can try depending on your printer model and operating system:
Adjust Print Quality Settings (Windows)
- Open the document you want to print.
- Click File > Print, then select your HP printer.
- Click Printer Properties or Preferences.
- Look for a Quality or Paper/Quality tab.
- Set Print Quality to Draft or Economy mode (lighter output).
- Click OK and then Print.
Use Grayscale or Black Ink Only
- In the same Printer Properties window, look for Color Options.
- Select Print in Grayscale or Black Ink Only.
- This can reduce ink usage and lighten the print.
Adjust Color Settings (if available)
- Some HP printers allow manual adjustment of color saturation.
- Look for Advanced or Color Management settings.
- Reduce Saturation or Contrast to lighten the print.
HP Smart App/HP App (Windows/macOS)
If you're using the HP Smart app, you can:
- Open the app and select your printer.
- Go to Print Settings before printing.
- Adjust Quality and Color Options.
Additional Tips
- Use genuine HP ink/toner: Non-HP cartridges may print darker or unevenly.
- Update printer firmware: Visit Official HP® Support and enter your printer model.
- Clean printheads (for inkjet printers): In the printer software or control panel, look for Tools > Clean Printhead.
If the suggestions helped solve the problem, please let us know by clicking “Accepted Solution.” It really helps fellow users find quick answers.
A quick “Yes” also goes a long way in showing appreciation!
Take care and happy computing!
