Hi
I have just changed my ink cartridges over to instant ink cartridges as the originals with the printer were low.
Since installing these new cartridges my printer will only print black/grey shades with a little yellow.
No other colours are printing.
Why is this happening? I’ve ran quality reports, I’ve checked firmware, I’ve cleaned print heads. No luck with anything. The quality report isn’t printing any blocks or colour.

@Lyndsay91, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you have previously cancelled instant ink, you must remove Instant Ink cartridges and purchase Original HP Ink or Toner directly from the retailer of your choice to continue printing. Instant Ink cartridges only work in enrolled printers.
We suggest you please replace the cartridges with Original HP catridges.

@Lyndsay91, Thank you for your response.
When enrolled to instant ink subscription, we suggest you please use only instant ink cartridges and not standard/original cartridges.
That said, please try these steps,
Double-Check Cartridge Installation:
- Remove and reinstall each cartridge, ensuring they click into place.
Inspect Cartridges:
- Look for any remaining tape or packaging.
- Gently blot the nozzles on a paper towel there should be visible ink marks.
Run a Deep Cleaning Cycle:
- Use the printer software to run a more intensive cleaning cycle (sometimes called “deep clean” or “prime”).
Try a Different Set of Cartridges:
- If possible, try using a different set of instant ink cartridges to see if the issue persists.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it for a few minutes, then plug it back in and restart.
I hope this helps!
