HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 All-in-One Printer
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Recently my OfficeJet Pro 9015 has been printing the colours too dark. It is especially noticeable on a project that has a light blue bar on each card (9 per page). The light blue bar prints as a medium or dark blue. Even the photos on the pages are over-saturated.

I had a few other projects that I printed that had issues that I over-looked for now (one had a yellow-ish hue, another one was too dull and dark). But I'd like to maybe reprint them to have better copies.

I've tried several things to try to get the colours correct: 1) printing at draft quality has lines on the photos and the blue is marginally better; 2) resetting the printer; 3) removing/re-installing the printer in the system (Mac).

I've burned through my Instant Ink pages and rollover pages for this month only to get no where.

I have a few projects I want to print and I can't because I don't trust the printer. One work-around for now is to replace the blue bar on each card (17 pages x 9 cards each). But since I was able to print a copy last summer that looked OK, I shouldn't have to change the original files.

I'm close to cancelling Instant Ink and switch to another brand of printer.

Hi @Digital_Moss,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already tried several troubleshooting steps to address the issue with your Officejet Pro 9015 printer's color accuracy, but the problem persists. Here are a few more steps you could try.

  • Check Ink Levels: Ensure that all the ink cartridges in your printer have sufficient ink levels. Sometimes, low ink levels can affect color accuracy.
  • Calibrate Your Printer: Many printers offer calibration tools either through their software or directly on the printer's control panel. This process helps align the printer's color output with what's on the screen.
  • Check Printer Settings: Make sure your printer settings are configured correctly for the type of paper you're using and the quality of print you desire. Adjusting settings like color balance, saturation, and brightness might help improve color accuracy.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your Mac. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause printing issues.
  • Use Original Manufacturer Ink Cartridges: While it might be tempting to use third-party ink cartridges to save money, they can sometimes cause color accuracy issues. Using genuine ink cartridges from the printer HP can ensure better performance.
  • Print a Test Page: Most printers have a built-in function to print a test page. This page often includes color bars that can help diagnose color accuracy issues.

If you're still experiencing problems after trying these steps, it's possible there may be a hardware issue with your printer

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you Alden4.

I've tried all that and confirmed it all.

I've removed the printer and even deleted all printers (I also have a B&W laser printer). Re-added it. Tried a software package from HP that proceeded to spit out all the paper in the paper tray instead of printing one page.

Test prints, calibration, choosing the paper weight.

The printer is connected to Wi-Fi so it gets firmware updates.

Ink levels are at 33-66%. I'm using HP Instant Ink cartridges sent from HP.

The only colour management available is to change paper type or use Draft/Normal/Best.

I've tried printing the same PDF file from a computer running Ubuntu, with the same results.

I think it is connected to the firmware update "2023-07-22". Before that the prints were OK.

I ended up making a whole new set of cards (17 pages) with a light blue bar.

I printed them today. Using the 'Normal' setting put some lines on the pages. UGGGHH!!!!

It would print, hesitate, print some more. Could be a communication issue.

The issue is not resolved.
