Why is the font type in the text I printed hollow -- by hollow I mean white in the inside and just outlined in black -- every other line if the intended result was just a font similar to the one Im using right now in all the lines in an HP ink 4640? My black ink level is around one fourth of its content.

Hi @curiousnooby,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
1. Check Ink Levels and Replace Cartridges
- Low Ink Levels: While you mention your black ink level is around one-fourth, low ink levels can still cause printing issues. Consider replacing the cartridge if it is nearly empty.
- Ink Cartridge: Ensure the ink cartridge is properly seated and has no leaks or clogs. Running a printhead cleaning routine can sometimes resolve issues related to ink distribution.
2. Perform a Printhead Cleaning
- Printhead Cleaning: Access your printer’s maintenance settings and perform a printhead cleaning. This can often resolve issues with ink distribution and print quality.
- Procedure: Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance on your printer's control panel, and select Clean Printhead.
3. Check Print Settings
- Software Settings: Ensure that the print settings in your printer software are correct. Sometimes, print settings like "Draft Mode" or incorrectly selected paper types can affect print quality.
- Ensure the print quality is set to higher modes rather than draft.
- Verify the paper type setting matches your paper to avoid any mismatches.
4. Update Printer Drivers and Software
- Printer Drivers: Update the printer drivers and software to the latest version from HP’s website. This can ensure compatibility and optimal performance.
- Visit HP Inkjet 4640 Drivers.
5. Align Printheads
- Printhead Alignment: Misaligned printheads can cause printing irregularities. Perform a printhead alignment through your printer’s maintenance settings.
- Access Settings > Printer Maintenance and select Align Printhead.
6. Check Printer Firmware
- Firmware Update: Ensure your printer firmware is up-to-date. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause various issues.
- Visit HP Printers - Updating Printer Firmware for instructions.
7. Troubleshooting Through Test Pages
- Print Quality Diagnostic Page: Print a diagnostic page to check whether the issue is consistent across different types of documents.
- Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance and select Print Quality Diagnostic Page.
I hope this helps.
