Hi @samdanielle,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Printing on Vellum paper with your HP Envy 7900 printer requires careful selection of settings to ensure the best quality without smudging or other issues, given the unique surface of Vellum paper.

For inkjet printers, which your HP Envy likely is, you'll find a variety of settings that can be adjusted to accommodate Vellum paper. It's recommended to experiment with different paper-type settings within your printer's dialog box, as the correct setting can significantly impact the print quality on Vellum. While specific settings for Vellum are not always listed, options such as "Plain Paper" or "Rough Cardstock" could be suitable starting points.

These settings help in managing how much ink the printer lays down, which is crucial since Vellum doesn't absorb ink as quickly as other papers. It's also advisable to use a setting that uses less ink to facilitate faster drying times and reduce smudging risk.

The general guidance for printing on specialty papers like Vellum includes adjusting print quality and ink usage settings. For instance, selecting a lower DPI (dots per inch) setting for less critical prints can save ink and speed up the printing process, while higher DPI settings are available for prints where detail is crucial. Additionally, some printers offer settings to adjust the dry time between prints, which can be beneficial for slow-drying surfaces like Vellum. However, these specific settings can vary by printer model.

In summary, while your HP Envy 7900 printer might not have a setting explicitly labeled for Vellum paper, experimenting with the available paper type and print quality settings can yield satisfactory results. Start with less ink-intensive settings and adjust based on the outcomes of your initial prints. Keep in mind the importance of allowing adequate drying time for Vellum prints to avoid smudging.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
