Does anyone have constant problems with their printer? So far it has not scanned, not printed, printed ridiculous colors, jammed, not printed envelopes, and generally is awful.  Is there a better company? I have called HP three times and it has taken HOURS.  I am so sad I purchased this printer, how long is the warranty?  Mine is 11 months old.

Hi @Christina6212,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand how frustrating these multiple issues with your printer can be, especially when you’ve already spent hours trying to resolve them. Here are five steps to address your concerns systematically:

  • Have you experienced these issues since the printer was first installed, or did they develop over time?
  • Are you using original HP cartridges and paper types recommended for this model?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps for the specific issues (e.g., driver updates, firmware updates, or resets)?

Let's try these steps.

1. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

  • Go to the HP Support website and enter your printer model (HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw).
  • Download and install the latest firmware and printer drivers for your operating system.
  • Ensure the printer is connected to a stable network during the update.

2. Perform a Full Printer Reset

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and turn the printer back on.
  • Restore the printer to factory defaults:
    • On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Service > Restore Defaults.

3. Address Printing and Color Quality Issues

  • Run the Print Quality Diagnostic Report from the printer's menu under Reports or Tools.
  • Perform a calibration:
    • Go to Setup > System Setup > Print Quality > Calibration/Cleaning Page.
  • Ensure you are using HP-recommended paper and genuine HP toner cartridges.

4. Resolve Scanning and Envelope Issues

  • For scanning:
    • Check if the HP Smart app is installed and properly configured. Re-add the printer if needed.
    • Ensure the document feeder and glass scanner are clean and free of dust or debris.
  • For envelope printing:
    • Confirm that the envelope size and type are selected correctly in the print settings.
    • Use the manual feed tray and adjust the guides to fit the envelope snugly.

5. Check Warranty and Service Options

  • Your printer has a one-year limited warranty, so if it’s 11 months old, it should still be covered.
  • Visit HP's Warranty Check and input your printer's serial number.
