Welcome to the HP Community --

This is one of the situations where the solution can depend on the context.

For example,

  • The Source -- The type and condition of the content impacts results -- For example -- Scanned / saved content, Stored file on device, a Web document, old photo files
  • The Paper - Paper must be supported and not too damp, too dry, curled, other than white, or unsuitable for use in the printer.
  • Printer Model - Self explanatory -- printers are not all the same.
  • The Ink System used in the Printer and the condition of the ink

Factors include -- and are not limited to one or more of the following:

=================

Source and Output

What you use as the source material can impact the output.

For example, an older, grainy, poorly colored image or document can produce odd results.

Paper

Printing on other than high-quality paper that is supported by the printer can produce odd results.

HP printers are manufactured to use the proper HP paper supported by the particular printer model.

HP printers generally tolerate high-quality not-HP paper of the right size, type, print surface, and weight.

Economy or low-grade papers are best avoided.

=================

Printer Model

The printer model might make a difference -- although most printers can interpret colors accurately, there are subtle differences on how the printer actually works to produce a printed image or file.

=================

Ink Brand

HP printers are manufactured to use HP Ink.

The printer might tolerate not new HP ink as long as the cartridge includes an HP chip.

The quality of non-HP ink refills / remanufactured cartridges is not supported, not guaranteed, and might be other than expected.

=================

Ink System

The printer might use a four-cartridge set of individual cartridges:  Yellow, Cyan, Magenta, Black

The printer might use a two-cartridge set:  One Black and one "multi-color" cartridge.

Four Cartridge Set

If you are using a printer model that supports (uses) four separate cartridges

Then

It's possible the output is overly "yellow" because one of the other cartridges are not working as they ought.

For example,

Yellow is a primary cartridge as is the Cyan (blue) cartridge.

If yellow is working but blue is not working, prints can be "overly" yellow.

Follow the steps in the Color Quality diagnostics document to test.

====================================

Two Cartridge Set

The same is true for a single multi-color cartridge, that is, perhaps one of the three colors included in the cartridge is not working.  Guessing is less useful -- the colors can only be checked using the Print Quality diagnostics.
