Hi @Robert0077 ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with  HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 All-In-One Printer Problem with Magenta ink cartridge. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

May I know

1. Since when are you facing this issue

2. Have you made any changes on your printer post that this issue raised and have you observed any light blinking on the display or error message

3. May I know if you are using Genuine HP cartridge

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with the Magenta ink cartridge in your HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 printer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

Verify Cartridge Installation:

  • Make sure that the Magenta ink cartridge is correctly installed. Remove the cartridge and reinsert it to ensure a proper connection.

Check for Protective Strips:

  • Ensure that you have removed any protective strips or tapes from the new Magenta ink cartridge. Sometimes, these strips can be easily overlooked.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and download and install any available firmware updates.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Remove the Magenta cartridge.
  • Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Allow the contacts to dry before reinserting the cartridge and turning the printer back on.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Make sure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-genuine or refilled cartridges may not be recognized or could cause issues.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, and wait for a few minutes.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
  • Check if the issue persists.

Run Printer Diagnostics:

  • Most printers have a diagnostic or maintenance feature. Check your printer manual for instructions on how to run diagnostic tests. These tests can often identify and fix common cartridge issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
