#63XL ink

My printer shows my 63XL ink cartridge is at 50%, however, it will not print.  How do I notify HP about this problem?  Would this be covered by warranty?

Hi @TomJ14,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is showing that the ink level for your #63XL cartridge is at 50% but it's not printing, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Check for Error Messages: Look for any error messages or warnings on your printer's display panel or on your computer screen. Error messages can provide valuable information about the problem.
  • Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the #63XL ink cartridge is properly installed in the printer. Make sure it is securely snapped into place.
  • Check for Tape or Packaging: Sometimes, new ink cartridges have protective tape or packaging that needs to be removed before they can be used. Ensure that all protective coverings have been removed from the cartridge.
  • Clean the Contacts: Ink cartridge contacts can become dirty or covered with ink residue, which can interfere with communication between the cartridge and the printer. Gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab and a bit of rubbing alcohol.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve minor issues.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause printing problems. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.
  • Reset the Printer: You can try resetting your printer to its default settings. The steps to do this can vary depending on your printer model, so consult your printer's manual or the HP support website for instructions.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Firmware updates can sometimes address compatibility issues and improve printer performance.
  • Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Using genuine HP ink cartridges is recommended to ensure compatibility and performance. Non-genuine or refilled cartridges may not work correctly.

Remember that ink level indicators are not always 100% accurate, and it's possible for a cartridge to have ink remaining but still experience printing issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
