My HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium e-All-in-One inidicated the Cyan cartridge was empty and needed to be replaced.  I replaced the cartridge with a new one purchased directly from HP. After installing the new cartridge, the touch screen displayed the following message. "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn the printer off, then on. If the problem persists, contact HP. If the empty cartridge is reinstalled, the message doesn't appear but it does indicate that it is empty and must be replaced. I'm at a loss of what to do next to get the printer working ag

Hi @CTAshby ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand there may be a problem with the ink system or the new cartridge installation. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600:

1. Check the Cartridge Installation

  • Remove the new Cyan cartridge and carefully reinsert it, ensuring it clicks into place.
  • Make sure there are no protective tapes or packaging materials left on the cartridge.

2. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on to see if the error message is cleared.

3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and remove the ink cartridges.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to gently clean the metal contacts on both the cartridge and the printer.
  • Reinstall the cartridges and turn the printer back on.

4. Perform a Printer Reset (Hard Reset)

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the printer’s power cord and wait for at least 30 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

5. Check the Ink Cartridge

  • Verify that the replacement Cyan cartridge is genuine and that it is the correct model for your printer.
  • If possible, try a different Cyan cartridge to ensure the issue is not with the cartridge itself.

6. Update Printer Firmware

  • If the issue persists, check if there is any available firmware update for your printer via the HP support website or HP Smart app. Sometimes, software updates can fix known bugs related to ink systems.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
