@Rudy101, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Check the Installation of the New Cartridge
- Make sure the new ink cartridge is properly installed. Sometimes, the cartridge may not be seated correctly.
- Remove the cartridge and reinsert it, ensuring it clicks into place.
Check for Protective Tape
- New cartridges often come with a protective tape or plastic covering that prevents ink from spilling before installation. Ensure you've removed all the packaging and protective tape from the cartridge before installing it.
Reset the Printer
- Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug the printer back in and power it on.
- This can sometimes resolve minor glitches with the ink system after a cartridge replacement.
Clean the Cartridge and Printer Contacts
- Sometimes, ink or dust can accumulate on the cartridge contacts or the printer’s contacts.
- Turn off the printer and remove the cartridge.
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth or cotton swab to gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer.
Perform a Print Quality Test
- Go to the printer’s settings menu and run a print quality diagnostic or alignment test.
- This will help ensure that the printer is recognizing the new cartridge and is properly calibrated.
Check for Printer Error Messages
- Look at the printer’s display screen or your computer for any specific error messages related to the ink system.

Check the Ink Levels
- On the printer’s display, check the ink levels to see if the printer is detecting the new cartridge properly.
- You can also check ink levels from your computer using the HP software.
Update Printer Firmware
- Ensure that the printer’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes an outdated firmware version can cause issues after replacing cartridges.
- You can check for updates via the printer’s menu or by visiting the HP support website.
Use HP Genuine Cartridges
- Make sure you're using an HP genuine toner cartridge. Third-party cartridges may not always work as expected, causing ink system issues.
Perform a Power Cycle (if not already done)
- Sometimes, simply performing a power cycle can resolve various printer issues. To do this:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord.
- Wait for 1-2 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Check for Obstructions or Jammed Paper
- Ensure there are no obstructions or jammed paper inside the printer, as this can interfere with normal operation.
I hope these steps help resolve the issue
