I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8720.  I replaced the ink with new cartridges (952 that I use all the time) twice and the same error code is coming up saying there is a problem with the supply system.  Help?

I understand you are getting the error message The "problem with supply system" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 can be frustrating, especially after replacing the ink cartridges. Here are several troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Check the Cartridges

  • Verify Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720. The compatible cartridges for this printer are HP 952, 952XL, or 956XL.
  • Inspect the Cartridges: Check for any visible damage or leaks on the cartridges.
  • Remove Protective Tape: Make sure you've removed any protective tape covering the ink nozzles or electrical contacts on the cartridges.

2. Reinstall the Cartridges

  • Turn off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the Cartridges: Open the printer and carefully remove the ink cartridges.
  • Clean the Contacts: Gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and the contacts inside the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinsert the Cartridges: Reinsert the cartridges into the printer and ensure they are seated correctly.
  • Turn on the Printer: Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Restart the Printer: Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check for Firmware Updates: Go to the HP support website and check for any firmware updates for your printer model. Install any available updates.

5. Run the Printer Diagnostics HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website. This tool can diagnose and fix many common printing and scanning problems.

6. Check the Printer Settings

  • Printer Software: Open the HP printer software on your computer. Go to the 'Printer Maintenance' or 'Settings' section and run any available diagnostic tools or maintenance tasks.

Additional Tips

  • Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges, as third-party or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause compatibility issues.
  • Check for Obstructions: Inspect the cartridge area for any obstructions or debris that might interfere with the cartridge seating or movement.
