Hey! I've had an HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer for a while now! However, out of the blue an error message popped up and said "There is a problem with the supply system. Try replacing the affected cartridge with a different, non-empty, cartridge.." BUTTT my cartridges are NOT empty-- they are rather quite full. Anyway, I ended up buying new ones because I thought maybe there was an issue reading the chip so I bought new ones hoping to resolve the issue and NO LUCK! Has anyone ever experienced this?? What did you do to resolve the issue???

TIA. 🙂

@fchapman, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP Officejet Pro 8710 is displaying a "Supply System" error despite having full cartridges, and replacing them hasn't resolved the issue, here are some steps to troubleshoot the problem:

Step 1: Check for Genuine HP Cartridges

Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP supplies. To check the authenticity of your cartridges.

Step 2: Cleaning Cartridge Chip

Clean the chip on the cartridges. Sometimes, dust or debris can cause the printer to not recognize the cartridges properly.

  1. Remove the cartridge from the printer.
  2. Wipe the chip gently with a dry, lint-free material like a coffee filter or eyeglass cleaning wipe.
  3. Reinsert the cartridge and wait for the printer to recognize it.

Step 3: Reset the Printer

Resetting the printer can sometimes resolve system errors.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
  5. Turn the printer back on.

Step 4: Firmware Update (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

Check for any available firmware updates for your printer. Sometimes software updates can resolve issues related to printing.

  1. Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
  2. Install the latest firmware update for your printer.

Step 5: Printhead Cleaning

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard.
  2. Touch the Setup icon.
  3. Swipe up on the display and then touch Printer Maintenance.
  4. Touch Clean Printhead and then touch Continue.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the cleaning.

Step 6: Check and Replace Printhead (if necessary)

If printhead cleaning does not resolve the issue, the printhead might need replacement.

  1. Go to the HP Parts Store and search for your specific part (M0H91A for printheads).
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to order the printhead assembly if needed.
  3. Follow the instructions for replacing the printhead.
