Microsoft Windows 11

I just bought a HP Officejet 8015e, and installed the ink cartridges. I get an error message that states that the cartridges are either damaged or missing. I have tried to reseat the cartridges to no avail. I have gotten several event codes 17.00.65, 17.03.65, 17.01.65 and 17.02.65.  Thanks.

Hi @LegalBeagle614,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error messages and event codes you’re encountering indicate the printer is having difficulty recognizing the installed cartridges. Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.

Ensure Proper Cartridge Installation

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
  • Inspect the cartridges for any protective tape on the nozzles or electrical contacts; if present, gently remove it.
  • Check for debris, ink smudges, or damage on the cartridge contacts or inside the cartridge slot.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly and ensure they click into place.

Restart the Printer

  • Plug the printer back in and power it on.
  • Allow the printer to go through its startup routine, then check for the error message.

Verify Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure you are using genuine HP setup cartridges that came with the printer. The HP OfficeJet 8015e requires specific cartridges, and setup cartridges are required for initial setup.
  • Check the cartridge packaging or model number to confirm compatibility.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Power off the printer and unplug it.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the cartridge slots.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • With the printer powered on, unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.
  • Check if the error persists.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Connect your printer to your computer or network.
  • Visit the HP Software & Drivers page, enter your printer model, and download the latest firmware update.
  • Install the update to ensure the printer software is up to date.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
