Hi @PETEC13,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 933XL yellow and cyan cartridges are still within the warranty period and are experiencing issues where the ink appears to discolor and doesn't print, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.
- Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the cartridges are properly installed in their respective slots. Make sure they are securely seated and properly clicked into place.
- Printer Cleaning Utility: Many printers have built-in cleaning utilities. Use the printer's software to run a cleaning cycle to clear any clogs or dried ink that might be affecting the print quality.
- Nozzle Check: Most printers have a nozzle check option that allows you to print a test page showing the status of each color. Check if the yellow and cyan sections on the nozzle check pattern are showing any issues. If there are gaps or lines, it may indicate a clog or issue with the cartridges.
- Manual Cleaning: If the nozzle check indicates a problem, you may need to manually clean the printhead. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to perform this task.
- Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date. Visit the official HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.
- Avoid Exposure to Light and Air: Ink cartridges should be stored in a cool, dark place and not exposed to excessive heat, light, or air. Exposure to these elements can impact the quality of the ink.
- Check Ink Levels: Verify that the cartridges have sufficient ink levels. If they are low, replace them with genuine HP cartridges.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you Alden4, I have tried all the normal things but the Printer status Report still prints out the yellow ink cartridge as black despite having a warranty expiry date of 2024/11/04 and a first installed date 2023/08/13. I don't think this is very good when the cartridges are so expensive.
