Purchased ink cartridge 902 in September, I already had to change the cartridge, very disappointed in how long the ink lasted, I hardly even print in color and 2 of the color cartridges had to be replaced.

Hi @Deborah14548,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the HP 902 ink cartridges. There are several factors that can impact ink usage and cartridge life, even when printing infrequently or mostly in black and white. Here are a few points to consider.

  • Usage and Print Environment: Factors such as the type of documents printed, the frequency of printer maintenance cycles, and the storage conditions of the printer can affect ink usage.
  • Maintenance Cycles: HP printers often perform routine maintenance cycles, which help in maintaining the print quality but can also use ink. These cycles are automatic and occur even if you print infrequently.
  • Printer Settings: Ensure that your printer settings are optimized for your needs. For example, if you primarily print in black, make sure the printer setting is configured to "black ink only" mode to conserve color ink.
  • Cartridge Expiry and Yield: Ink cartridges have an expected page yield, which is an estimate of the number of pages that can be printed with a single cartridge. However, actual yields vary considerably based on factors such as the types of pages printed and usage conditions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
