Randomly, a character doesn't print on the page.  So for example, on a whole page of type, 2 characters might be missing.

like: I went on va ation

in this example, the "c" after the "a" is missing, white space instead of a character.  A tiny sliver of the missing "c" might be visible but that's all.  Some pages don't have any missing characters.  And no, the user didn't leave out any characters from the typed document.

I also already installed a different HP driver.  Didn't resolve the issue.

It was a bad spot on the drum unit.  The spot was etched into the drum.  When I replaced the drum, the issue resolved.

@DD723

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • What's the application you are trying to print from?
  • Have you tried printing from a different application or device?
  • Are you able to make copies from the printer?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps: Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor to automatically identify and resolve the issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

  • What's the application you are trying to print from?  Happens from word and from Outlook
  • Have you tried printing from a different application or device? No
  • Are you able to make copies from the printer? Yes

I'm waiting for her to tell me when she has time for me to run the HP Dr.

When I run the scan DR, it just does this.  Doesn't troubleshoot anything.

And when I click the yellow help & support icon, I get

still no option to troubleshoot.  And I already went through the virtual asst before I posted this issue on this blog.  Asst didn't help at all.
