Hi

I have a couple of 7720's which I switched the Firmware upgrade option off but it still seems to have installed anyway.

 

I need to print some stuff out but I'm using third party ink tanks to print - I ran out of Black and put the last cartridge from the set in - the other three are fine but due to the firmware upgrade the printer locks me out from using the system unless I stick an HP Cartridge in the beast. 

 

I have tried installing from scratch the old OJ7720_Full_WebPack_44.3.2218.exe from 02/2021 but it doesn't seem to overwrite the firmware. Is there any solution for this - frankly I find it a bit obscene to throw away an unused high capacity black tank simply because it's not sold by HP and even less happy if I can't use the printer simply because it only runs on HP fuel... more like ransonware than firmware.  I think a few HP execs might be a bit huffy if their four year old car suddenly only ran on fuel sold by the car manufacturer.

 

Please provide a solution to this before I have to take the green option and heave both of these printers into a skip...

The web package is only drivers, it does not contain firmware, that would be a separate download, however in most cases the older firmware will not be available on the HP site anymore so you will likely have to search online for it.

Thanks for coming back on this.

 

Also have firmware from 08/09/2020 - OJ7720_2024A.exe

 

Only problem is when I run it, it sees the printer in the dialogue box with the port address and and version  but it won't allow me to click next to serial number to select it before hitting the update button. Refresh just goes round again. Just can't select that tick box...

Which I percieve to be a solution to this problem - Please read all the caveats in the post if you do try it -  the obvious thing is you are downgrading... therefore you may loose some features. But a printer you can't print out of is not a lot of use to me. If you have issues you could perhaps download the latest firmware / drivers and update again and use only HP cartridges.

 

I think I'd rather go pull teeth out of a chicken or go and buy another printer...
