HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

My 8610 printer ran out of yellow ink.  Opened new box of 950XL and 951 3 color cartridges.  Could not insert the new yellow because internal plastic ridges are different.  Same is true for black, magenta and cyan in this box - none fit my printer slots..  New box is identical to my previous box in all descriptions.  On the cartridge itself the model number now has the letter N after the original number.  Yellow was CN052A, new yellow is CN052AN. I now have $130 worth of ink that won't fit my printer.  Were the wrong cartridges put in the box? Did HP discontinue the cartridges because the printer is discontinued?  I am afraid to buy any more HP cartridges if I can't trust the info on the box.  Please help.
