Refilling HP ink cartridges is technically possible I suppose, but it's not recommended by HP for several reasons:
Printhead and ink quality issues – Non-HP inks may have different chemical compositions that can clog the printhead or cause inconsistent colors.
Cartridge chip errors – Refilling often triggers "used" or "incompatible cartridge" errors, especially with HP Ink Advantage printers, since their cartridges contain smart chips.
Warranty impact – Using refilled or third-party ink can void the printer's ink-related warranty coverage if a print quality or ink system issue occurs.
If you print frequently, consider one of these alternatives:
HP Ink Advantage cartridges (genuine): Designed for lower cost per page than standard HP ink.
HP Smart Tank series printers: These are refillable ink tank printers designed specifically to minimize ink costs over time.
For now, you can check your model's cartridge numbers here → enter DeskJet Ink Advantage 3788 → "Supplies" to see compatible original cartridges and available bundle discounts in your region.
Kind Regards,
