HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M183fw

I brought my laser jet printer MPF M183fw from Hong Kong to UK. A new set of toner cartridge HP216A was purchased in UK. When I inserted the new toner cartridge, " incompatible cartridge" was prompted on screen. I heard that I need to reset the region code of my printer. Can anyone help to do this please?

Hi @rctrs,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

"Region code" usually refers to a code that is programmed into electronic devices, such as DVD or Blu-ray players, to prevent the playback of discs from certain regions of the world. However, this is not typically an issue with printers or printer cartridges.

Regarding the "incompatible cartridge" error you are seeing on your MPF M183fw printer, it could indicate that the cartridge you are trying to use is not compatible with your printer model or that it may be damaged or defective.

Here are a few things you could try.

  • Make sure you are using the correct type of cartridge for your printer. Check the printer's user manual or the manufacturer's website to ensure you have the correct model number.
  • Remove the cartridge and check it for any visible damage or defects. If you notice anything, try replacing the cartridge with a new one.
  • Clean the cartridge contacts and printer contacts with a soft, lint-free cloth. This can help to remove any dirt or debris that may be interfering with the connection.
  • Try resetting the printer. Unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in. This can sometimes help to resolve issues with cartridge compatibility.

If none of these steps work, you may need to consider purchasing a new cartridge that is compatible with your printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
