Hello,

I need help with a regional reset for my HP Tango X printer.

The printer was originally purchased in Spain and was enrolled in HP Instant Ink. I have now moved to Mexico for a long-term stay, and I am no longer able to use the printer properly.

Current situation:
- The printer does not recognize local HP 664 cartridges
- Instant Ink cartridges are no longer a viable option since I cannot receive shipments in Mexico
- The printer itself is working correctly and is connected to Wi-Fi

I have already contacted HP support in Mexico, but they were unable to assist and referred me to a physical service center. The service center also could not help and mentioned the printer is out of warranty.

From my understanding, this is not a hardware issue but a cartridge regionalization issue, and a regional reset should be possible remotely by HP support.

I am ready to:
- Cancel Instant Ink if required
- Use new HP 664 cartridges for activation
- Follow any necessary steps

Could someone from HP support or the community guide me on how to proceed with a regional reset in this situation?

Thank you very much for your help.

I notified the moderator of the problem.

Changing the region code can be difficult as described here.

When an agent contacts you ensure that the agent is familiar with the OS you are using. If the agent is in a different time zone try to get one in your time zone. If that is not possible you may need to choose the best time to make a contact.

You may need WhatsApp to work through the region reset procedure.

1. The printer should be connected using a printer USB cable to the computer.
2. You need to have the printer full feature software installed on your computer.
3. You need to have all the cartridges either from the region/country from where the printer was purchased originally or the new region/country to which you want to reset it to.
4. The cartridges must be genuine HP.
5. Make sure HP Smart App is installed.
6. If the printer is not under warranty, then the ink cartridges need to be in the warranty period.

Hi, thank you again for your help and guidance.

I wanted to provide an update on my situation. I have already contacted HP Support in Spain, and they redirected me to HP Mexico. However, HP Mexico informed me that they do not perform regional resets in Latin America and also mentioned that the printer must be under warranty, so they could not assist me.

At this point, I am stuck between regions, as Spain refers me to Mexico, and Mexico cannot perform the procedure.

I fully understand the requirements you mentioned (USB connection, full software, genuine cartridges, HP Smart), and I am ready to follow the process.

Could you please clarify which HP support region is actually able to perform the regional reset in this case? Or if possible, could this be escalated to an HP moderator or specialist who can assist directly?

Thank you very much for your support.

As far as I know, either the printer or the ink needs to be under warranty.

To check if an HP ink cartridge is genuine, look for a security label on the cartridge, scan the QR code on the label with your phone, and then go to HP's website hp.com/go/ok to verify the serial number on the label; if the label appears tampered or the serial number doesn't validate, the cartridge is likely not genuine.

I notified a moderator yesterday just after I posted.  It may take a few days as this is a weekend.

I do not understand why Spain referred you to Mexico. Nor do I understand quote " However, HP Mexico informed me that they do not perform regional resets in Latin America".

Clearly Mexico does region resets in Mexico which is part of Latin America.  Perhaps our Mexico expert  @GOLD_MASTER might be able to help but I think the problem is Spain.  We are just volunteers here and do not work for HP.

Hi, thank you again for your help and for notifying the moderator. I just wanted to confirm that I now have everything prepared to proceed with the regional reset: * The printer is connected via USB to my computer * Full feature HP software is installed * HP Smart App is installed * I have genuine HP 664 cartridges (new and valid) I am ready to follow the process step by step with a technician. If possible, could a moderator or HP specialist contact me via private message, as I have seen in other similar cases in the forum? I would be happy to continue the process there or via WhatsApp if needed. Thank you very much for your support and assistance.

Hi @Juanmmm,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

For a regional reset, the printer must be set up with regular HP cartridges, not Instant Ink cartridges.

If you want to continue using Instant Ink in Mexico, the previous Instant Ink account linked to the printer will need to be cancelled first. After that, the printer can be registered again in the new country under a new Instant Ink enrollment. Once that is completed, you should start receiving the compatible Instant Ink cartridges for Mexico.

So in this case:

  • Regional reset applies to normal HP cartridges
  • Instant Ink cartridges are tied to the Instant Ink account and country setup
  • The old Instant Ink enrollment needs to be cancelled
  • The printer then needs to be re-registered in Mexico for Instant Ink service there

Once that is done, you should be able to receive and use the correct cartridges for your new location.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Hi, thank you for your explanation.

I think continuing with Instant Ink in Mexico could be a good option for me, but before proceeding I would like to confirm a couple of points.

Could you please confirm if HP Tango X is fully supported for Instant Ink service in Mexico?

Also, I would like to confirm if the process is simply:
1. Cancel the previous Instant Ink subscription (already done)
2. Register the printer again in Mexico
3. Enroll in Instant Ink Mexico to start receiving compatible cartridges locally

I just want to make sure this will work correctly with my printer model before enrolling again.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi @Juanmmm,

Thanks for your detailed follow-up, you’re absolutely on the right track here.

The HP Tango X is supported with HP Instant Ink in regions where the service is available, including Mexico. So yes, your printer model is compatible for enrollment there.

Yes, your steps are correct:

  1. Cancel previous Instant Ink subscription (already done)
  2. Register the printer again in Mexico
  3. Enroll in Instant Ink (Mexico region)

Once completed, HP will send region-compatible Instant Ink cartridges, and the printer should function normally.

Since you mentioned logistics issues earlier, continuing with Instant Ink in Mexico is the smoothest option, provided delivery is now feasible.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Hello, I have already cancelled my Instant Ink subscription, but it is still showing as "cancellation in progress".

I need to immediately terminate the subscription and release/unlink the printer from the Instant Ink account, as I want to re-register it in Mexico.

Could you please finalize the cancellation and release the printer from the system?

Thank you.
