HP Officejet Pro 8630 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello All - My OfficeJet Pro 8630 is stuck in z20 region for ink cartridges but I need it reset to z10 [United States]. The printer has only ever been in US but I just got locked out today after exhausting my supply of legacy cartridges and unknowingly plugged in a locally purchased z10.

After 2.5 hours on the phone with four HP agents and zero progress, I am asking if someone has the secret sauce to get the reset.

I see many folks here with the same issue but have not seen anyone post what the secret sauce is to get the code and where to enter it.

Thanks in advance!

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
We need to perform a regional reset on the printer to resolve this issue. The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device. I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

This is @compacompa on planet Earth calling any HP person.......hello.....hello....can you hear me?

What do I have to do to get an answer to this issue?  Phone support is clueless on the printer regionalization reset and there is nothing but crickets here online.  At least on the phone I can talk to someone who really, really wants to upsell me to a new printer.  What a great strategy you got there HP!

How about providing some old fashioned customer support and give me the code to resolve my issue?

Thanks!

To any and all interested parties - my printer is now fixed with the correct regionalization reset codes provided by HP Tech Support via this forum.  As you can see from this thread, it was a rough journey but the process outlined for me was straightforward but the codes had to come from HP Tech Support or else you may brick the printer.

The instructions are generic, it is the codes that are critical and based on the data pulled from your printer, as detailed below, and sent to HP in private message.

Here are the steps [you need to get the codes from HP]. Good luck.

To do a printer region reset you need to meet the following conditions:

  1. The printer should be connected using a printer USB cable to the computer.
  2. You need to have the printer's full feature software installed on your computer.
  3. You need to have all the cartridges either from the region from where the printer was purchased originally or the new region to which you want to reset it.

If you meet the above conditions, follow the below steps:

  1. Launch the printer software from the desktop icon or, from the Start menu, click Start >> All Programs >> HP >> the Product Name >> and then the Product Name again.
  2. Double-click the Estimated Ink Levels icon in the printer software. The Estimated Ink Levels window opens.
  3. Press and hold the CTRL and SHIFT keys, and then right-click anywhere in the Estimated Ink Levels window, except for a button. The Set New Region window opens.
  4. If the Set New Region window fails to open, right-click to the right and left of the Estimated Ink Levels window.
  5. Use the "Copy to Clipboard" feature to paste the values here.
  6. [I copied and sent the values in private message reply]

Support replied with the codes needed for the reset - I proceeded as follows:
  7. On the Set New Region window where it says "Enter reset code provided by the support personnel" enter this number- ####-####-####-####-####
    It should be like this:
    Box 41-  ####

    Box 42-  ####
    Box 43-  ####
    Box 44-  ####
    Box 45-  ####
  8. Once you enter the value you will get a 5 digit value below the code you have entered in box 51.
  9. If the box 51 value is ##### then click OK.
If it doesn't match then take a picture of the screen and send it to me.
  10. Once you click on OK, you should get a message "Device region reset succeeded".
  11. Now, restart the printer, remove and reinstall the ink cartridges, and try printing.

If it fails, report back, do not try the reset multiple times as it may brick the device.
