I moved from Canada to Germany with my OfficeJet 3830 and I need a regionalization reset to be able to use the cartridges available here (302 instead of the Canadian 63).
The printer is out of warranty but I just bought brand new Hp 302 cartridges which I read should qualify for this support. I also read this needs to be done through Canada, but I cannot find support on the webpage other than AI which was no help at all. Can anyone please help?? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hi @CanadianExpat77,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you. Please note that HP Printers use different ink cartridges in different regions, and to use the ink cartridges sold in the current region, we need to change the region settings on the printer.
I request that you please get back to me with the following information so that I can help you change the region settings on the printer.
Do you still have the ink cartridges for both regions?
Do you have a printer USB cable? Or trying to connect via Wifi?
Please note: A regional reset can only be performed on the Windows Pc.
Do you have the printer's full-feature software and drivers installed on your PC, or the HP App Installed?
Hope this helps!
Thanks!

Hello! Many thanks for getting back to me!
In response to your questions:
- I have a black ink cartridge 63 from Canada which has most likely dried out since it does not print anything despite showing about 1/3 full level on the printer settings; and I have bought a brand new box with a black and a colour cartridge number 302 (which seems to be the equivalent). I tried installing the colour one, but it gave me the error of "wrong cartridge" and that's when I found out I needed this region change.
- Yes, I do have a printer USB cable I can use.
- I do not have access to a Windows though, I only have a MacBook. Does this mean we won't be able to do it? My husband's work computer is Windows but he is not allowed to install any software there, so I'm not sure that would help. Please tell me there is a way around this? 😞
Thanks again!!

Hi @CanadianExpat77,
Thank you for providing all the details. I understand the situation.
Before we proceed, could you please confirm whether both the Canadian HP 63 cartridge and the new-region HP 302 cartridges are currently installed in the printer, or if you have only the new-region cartridge installed?
Regarding the regional reset, it can only be performed using a Windows PC. Unfortunately, the reset cannot be performed from a Mac.
If possible, could you please arrange access to a Windows PC from a family member or friend? The Windows PC would only be needed to perform the regional reset. Once the reset is completed, you can return to using your MacBook with the printer as normal.
Please let us know about the cartridges currently installed and whether you can arrange access to a Windows PC, and we can guide you with the next steps.

Hi @VikramTheGreat,
thanks again for getting back to me.
at this moment I only have the HP 63 installed. I put the 302 in and once it gave me the error, I decided to take it out. So both 302 are in the box, and a black 63 is in the printer.
As for the computer, you mentioned something about installing software? Would I need to install something at this computer if I borrowed it from someone? My husband’s work laptop is a Windows but he is not able to install anything there. Let me know about this, and in the meantime, I’ll see if I can find anyone to lend me one.
Thanks!!

Hi @CanadianExpat77,
Thank you for clarifying. Since the HP 63 black cartridge is currently installed and the HP 302 cartridges are still in the box, please keep the cartridges as they are for now.
For the regional reset, we need both the black and colour cartridges installed in the printer. If the original Canadian cartridges are no longer usable, we can proceed using the new-region cartridges, provided they are genuine HP cartridges.
Regarding the Windows PC, yes, the HP printer driver/software needs to be installed so the printer can communicate with the Windows computer and the regional reset can be performed. Your husband's work laptop may not be suitable if he is not permitted to install software.
If possible, could you please arrange a Windows PC from a friend or family member? Once the regional reset is completed, you can reconnect the printer to your MacBook. The HP software/driver installed on the borrowed Windows PC can then be removed.
Please let us know if you are able to arrange a Windows PC, and we will guide you through the next steps.

Hi again @VikramTheGreat,
thanks once again for getting back to me.
If both cartridges need to be installed, then I guess the only option is the new ones! I bought them from Amazon, but they are original HP.
I have a friend who has kindly offered her windows laptop, but she asked how long it would take and I couldn’t answer. I imagine the process itself doesn’t take long (?) but do we need to be chatting live to do it, or how exactly would that work?
Thanks again!

Thank you for letting me know. Please follow the steps shared below and send me a screenshot of the details in a private message. I’ll review the information and help you with the regional reset.
Step 2:
1) Launch the printer software from the desktop icon or, from the Start menu, click Start, All Programs, HP, the Product Name, and then the Product Name again.
2) Double-click the Estimated Ink Levels icon in the printer software. The Estimated Ink Levels window opens.
3) Press and hold the CTRL and SHIFT keys, and then right-click anywhere in the Estimated Ink Levels window, except for a button. The Set New Region window opens.
4) If the Set New Region window fails to open, right-click to the right and left of the Estimated Ink Levels window.
5) Take a screenshot of the screen and send it to me in private.

Hi @VikramTheGreat!
I finally got the computer and managed to get the screenshot needed.
I cannot find the option to send you a private message, though. I read it could be because I’m new here. Could you send me a message first?
Thanks in advance
