HP Smart Tank 615
Microsoft Windows 11

My printer is an HP Smart Tank 615. I keep receiving messages stating that there is a problem with the installed cartridge, and I am instructed to reinstall it. I bought a new cartridge hoping to resolve the issue, but after installing it, the problem persists.

Hi @AMDARVZ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer cartridge!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure the new cartridge is the correct one for the HP Smart Tank 615.
  • If it’s not an original HP ink cartridge, try using a genuine HP one.

Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridge.
  • Gently wipe the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Let it dry for a few minutes and reinstall it.

Reset the Printer

  • Unplug the printer while it is turned on.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes and plug it back in.
  • Turn it on and check if the error is gone.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to HP Support and check for any firmware updates for your model.
  • If an update is available, install it and restart the printer.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Remove the cartridges and unplug the printer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Plug it back in, reinstall the cartridges, and check if it works.
