Hi, I have an HP Office Jet Pro 7740 which is approx 3 years old. I had to change the color cartridges and the yellow one keeps getting rejected. The cartridges are compatible with the printer. The old yellow was depleted of ink, wherein the cyan and magenta had very little ink. How can I get the printer to accept the yellow cartridge? Thank you.

Hi @dbenantibon ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is rejecting the new yellow ink cartridge, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
- Check Cartridge Compatibility: Double-check that the yellow cartridge is the correct model for your printer. Even if it seems compatible, make sure it matches the specific model required by your OfficeJet Pro 7740.
- Inspect the Cartridge and Printer Contacts: Ensure that the gold contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer are clean and free from any debris. You can gently wipe them with a lint-free cloth or a soft, dry cloth.
- Reinstall the Cartridge: Remove the yellow cartridge and reinsert it carefully, making sure it clicks into place properly. Sometimes a cartridge may not be seated correctly.
- Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about a minute. Plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes, a reset can help the printer recognize the new cartridge.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can usually find firmware updates on HP's support website or through the HP Smart app. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Try a Different Cartridge: If possible, try a different yellow cartridge to rule out the possibility of a faulty cartridge.
- Perform a Printer Calibration: Go to the printer's control panel and find the option for calibration or alignment. This process can sometimes help with cartridge recognition issues.
