How can I get my case reopened (Case #[editrd])? My printer has started periodically putting colored horizontal lines on my printouts.  Thank you!

Hi @sorkat88,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your printer is placing colored horizontal lines across your printouts. This issue is typically known as "banding" and can be caused by various factors, including printhead issues or paper advance problems. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check Print Quality Settings:

  • Ensure you are using appropriate print quality settings for your document. Sometimes setting the print quality to "Best" rather than "Fast" can help reduce banding issues.

Clean the Printheads:

  • Banding can be caused by a printhead with clogged nozzles. Running a printhead cleaning cycle can often resolve this. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on cleaning the printheads.

Perform Paper Advance Calibration:

  • If the problem persists, it could be a paper advance issue. Performing a paper advance calibration might help. This process involves printing and evaluating a series of test patterns to adjust how the printer feeds the paper.

Use Diagnostic Tools:

  • Utilize the printer's Image Diagnostics Print. This tool is designed to highlight printhead performance problems and can help identify if a specific printhead is causing the issue.

Replace Faulty Printheads:

  • If a specific printhead shows signs of malfunctions and cleaning does not resolve the problem, consider replacing the printhead.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
