Hi there, @rribe, and welcome to HP Support Community!
Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.
If your HP printer goes through the motions of printing but no ink appears on the page after replacing the cartridges, please try the following steps:
Remove Protective Tape from Cartridges
Ensure the plastic tape covering the ink nozzles has been removed.
- Power off the printer.
- Remove each cartridge and inspect the bottom for any orange or clear tape.
- If present, gently peel it off and reinstall the cartridges.
Run a Printhead Cleaning Cycle
This helps clear any dried ink or clogs.
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Tools > Clean Printhead.
- You can also do this via the HP Smart app or printer software.
Check Ink Levels and Cartridge Compatibility
- Make sure the cartridges are genuine HP and compatible with your printer model. Which cartridges work with my HP printer? | HP® Support
- Check ink levels via the printer display or HP Smart app.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from both the printer and wall outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and power on.
Print a Test Page
Try printing a printer status report or diagnostic page from the control panel.
- If it prints blank, the issue may be with ink flow or the printhead.
- If it prints correctly, the issue may be with the document or app.
Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware can cause printing issues.
- Use the HP Smart app or visit HP support site to check for updates.
Try Printing from Another App
Sometimes the issue is with the file or app you're printing from.
- Try printing a simple document from Notepad or Word.
