I replaced the printhead and the ink cartridges are HP and full. However, I can't get the ink to calibrate and have documents print correctly. I saw that there is something called setup ink cartridges. Do I need to have those in order to get the new printhead to work properly?

Hi @KH224,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've taken the right steps by replacing the printhead and ensuring the ink cartridges are full and properly installed. Typically, setup ink cartridges are included with a new printer to initialize the setup process and calibrate the printhead. However, they aren't usually necessary after the initial setup unless you're experiencing specific issues.
Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Restart the Printer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on again.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Make sure your printer's firmware is up-to-date. HP often releases updates that address bugs and improve performance.
- Clean Printhead: Even though you've replaced the printhead, it's worth checking if there's any residue or debris blocking the ink flow. Most printers have a utility function to clean the printhead.
- Run Diagnostic Tests: Your printer may have diagnostic tools built-in. Check the user manual or the printer's settings menu for options to run diagnostic tests or calibrate the printhead manually.
Setup ink cartridges are primarily meant for the initial setup process and aren't typically required for ongoing printer operation. However, if you're still having trouble, it's worth considering if using them could help resolve the calibration issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
